PACT Act, C&P Exams, and Appeals

Veterans who served near burn pits, in Vietnam, in Southwest Asia, in Afghanistan, in Iraq, or in other qualifying locations may now qualify for toxic exposure benefits. A C&P exam helps VA evaluate a claimed condition. If a claim is denied, DAV can help review Supplemental Claim, Higher-Level Review, and Board Appeal options.

VA North Texas Health Care System serves veterans across North Texas with primary care, specialty care, mental health, pharmacy, telehealth, rehabilitation, women’s health, caregiver support, and emergency care.

Enrollment

You may apply online through VA.gov, by phone, in person at a VA facility, or with help from an accredited DAV representative. Bring your DD Form 214, photo ID, Social Security number, insurance information, and financial information if requested.

The Veterans Crisis Line is free, confidential, available 24/7, and serves Veterans, service members, National Guard and Reserve members, and loved ones. You do not have to be enrolled in VA benefits or health care to connect.

Seek help immediately if you have an eviction notice, are sleeping outside or in a vehicle, are staying in a shelter, are moving from place to place, or cannot pay rent or utilities.

Veterans bring leadership, discipline, teamwork, technical training, and problem-solving skills to the civilian workforce.

Education benefits can help veterans pursue college, technical training, trade school, apprenticeships, certifications, licensing exams, and career changes.

Local options include Tarrant County College, University of Texas at Arlington, Texas Wesleyan University, Texas Christian University, and approved trade or certification programs.

Emergency assistance may help with rent, utilities, food, transportation, temporary lodging, clothing, medical expenses, case management, and financial counseling when funding is available.

No veteran should have to choose between food, rent, utilities, or medication. Food support in Tarrant County may include emergency groceries, fresh produce, mobile distributions, SNAP application help, home-delivered meals, holiday meals, and household essentials.

Reliable transportation helps veterans attend medical appointments, benefits appointments, job interviews, training, and essential services.

Women veterans are entitled to the same VA benefits as other eligible veterans and may also access women-specific care through VA North Texas.

• Mental health care, MST care, family planning, menopause treatment, lifestyle wellness services, and telehealth

Spouses, children, parents, caregivers, and survivors may qualify for programs that support caregiving, survivor benefits, education, burial benefits, respite care, and counseling.

As veterans age, needs may include geriatric care, home-based primary care, homemaker and home health aide services, adult day health care, community living centers, hospice, palliative care, and state veterans homes.

Legal issues may involve housing, employment, consumer protection, family law, public benefits, estate planning, and veterans treatment courts. Seek help as soon as legal paperwork arrives.

Texas offers additional benefits involving education, property tax exemptions, license plates, home loans, land loans, state veterans homes, cemeteries, hunting and fishing licenses, parks, employment, and veteran outreach.
